Welcome to the "New Email receivers"......that have joined us ..... Question from new resident: Do you know??....if any Veterinarians come to Ransom Canyon ???? If you do, will you pass it to me......and I will pass it on.........and/or post it to the next email.... If not....this might be a great idea for those who find it difficult to load and transport cats or dogs to the office. Election time.........all around our City......(as well as the nation) City Council Members, spots....are Jana Trew, Jack Randorff, and Billy Williams As I checked with Murvat, at the City offices, she shares: First filings February 4th, til March 5th, calll 829-2470 for more answers and documents. Chapel Board Elections - details have been sent, and if you would like to know more, call Carla Temple,829-2132 POA Board - April - more details.........However, now is a great time to think of volunteering... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jackie, can you please add this to your email? (from Elleta Nolte, author of "A Place Set Apart", story of Ransom Canyon...) I'm giving an oral presentation to the West Texas Historical Association's annual meeting, this one in Alpine March 30-31. My topic is "The Impact of the Civilian Conservation Corps on West Texas." The CCC built over 50 state parks in Texas, including the Mackenzie Park here in Lubbock. And they did much more before their demise in 1942, seventy years ago this June. Make note of this...do any of you know of someone once association with the CCC? Or any bit of information you might give me. If so, please email me at e@qtx.net. Thanks, Jackie *********************************************************** This spot is purchased by: Barbara & Robert Wilkes...............who has "this for sale...." As we discussed over the telephone on Sunday, please insert the following ad in your forthcoming email to Ransom Canyon residents: So, please make note; and you, and or a neighbor might be looking for this very "item"..... "Two adjacent, covered RV storage lots to become available approximately May 15, 2012. Call Robert Wilkes at 829-2100 for price and other information." Thanks, to Robert and Barbara for participating in our new "service to our residents"........ So.........if you want to "purchase an ad space"..........call 543-7089 or email jackdev05@hotmail.com ************************************************************************ Insurance rates???? Did you know.....that last year....our Volunteer Fire Department was able to get our Insurance number down to PPC-5, which helped on homeowners insurance??? So, if you are renewing your homeowners insurance policy... or getting quotes...please make note of this, perhaps you will save few dollars. I did last year....so you might want to check it out...!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Tonight, the POA Board will hold the January meeting.......at the Ranch House; and the next email will hopefully post planned activities........and YOU will hopefully be enthused to join in the fun!!!! ...................until the next one..........

To our friends and neighbors in Ransom Canyon, thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, cards, wonderful food and acts of kindness. Daddy, Carl “Cal” Cailloux, passed peacefully at home with loved ones around. We appreciate those who came to the funeral home and to his celebration of life service. Dad was 102 and lived in the Canyon since 1981. You would remember him by his special wave as he sat out front watching you drive by. He loved the canyon and each of you. We are blessed to live in a community of caring people. With love, Cherie and Larry Deardorff, Jeanneane Hedspeth Simpson and families. A VERY HUGE "THANK YOU" to the Ladies Luncheon Group - for their monetary contribution in funding and furnishings at the Ranch House, and most especially the Brides' Room. These additions will be enjoyed by us, as residents, as well as, those renting our facility. Thanks LADIES.....and as further suggestions, and contributions are made, we hope to acknowledge all ! *********************************************************** Summer's.............not quite over.........but, it is getting closer!!! (however, it seems the weatherman doesn't know it yet) As my and Roland's travels took us to New York City........thru the benefit of the tickets won at our Kentucky Derby, thru Envoye' Travel.............am feeling compelled to share a few words............. Upon making plans to see "Ground Zero", not much thought was given to, who would lead the tours, and what to expect, except knowing that the 10th Anniversary was coming up, and many plans were being made in preparation for that event. So, it was with complete surprise when we began the tour to meet family members of those lost in the disaster that occurred on 9/11/01. If you have opened the attached photo, you will have already seen, what was in my camera viewfinder, as I lifted it to my eyes just prior to snapping the shot at Ground Zero. That was an "attention getter", and certainly made me aware of all of the crossbars, in the windows which we were looking thru, toward the construction work being done on 8/11/11. The Mother and Aunt of two of the individuals, killed that day, were our Tour Guides, and others, just like them are the ones presenting the tours on a daily basis, so it is very quickly evident, that you are going to learn more than you imagined. The many facts shared, as well as the emotions shared were done in a very professional manner, yet, you knew that it is this "one on one" sharing that makes all of us remember that day, once again. As we volunteer within our community here, it was a great surprise to see the New Yorkers volunteer to share their time, story and emotions, with the rest of the world, or at least those who, like us, came to view the current progress, after 10 years. Several new friends were made..........and that was "the most pleasant surprise of it all". Without going into detail about the Museums, wonderful Italian dinners.........revisiting sights....seen before......I must say the 9 days spent there, were especially wonderful. On to Atlantic City...........(not much success at the slots).....then on to Philadelphia..... Talk about History............that was my first time to visit the City (and I would go back any time).....it was also facinating learning about the City.............. and..............if you catch me out and about.............I will probably bore you with the details!!! Needless to say, we were glad that the "earthquake didn't bother us as we were driving back to New York City.....and we left on Wednesday, before the rain and hurricane invaded the area".................so.............YES, it was a very enjoyable, delightful, (fattening) trip........... AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT...............TO ALL WHO LIKE TO TRAVEL.........CALL SIGRID !!!! Am wondering...........as the summer winds down........and the pool's last day is this weekend....remember FREE SWIM DAY - MONDAY, LABOR DAY....SEPTEMBER 5TH... Am wondering, has someone given some thought to becoming the "New Pool Manager?"....for next season? As mentioned before, Shawnda & Joe Martin, are finishing out this season (be sure to say a BIG THANKS) so the POA Board IS NEEDING SOME HELP HERE........... Please contact any of the Board Members, with your interest.......(the ice cream event would be a great time to visit about this)....or before!!! *************************************** Also...........remember, Ron Bornick has accepted the position of Ranch House Manager......for bookings....holiday parties.....weddings......receptions............all around functions..........New Phone numbers are: 407-0510 or 745-2901 As POA Members, please remember this wonderful Ransom Canyon Ranch House.....is one of our greatest perks......and renting it is our way of covering the expenses of maintenance.... Until..........next time..........check out our website: www.ransomcanyonpoa.org and see what else you can find to read about!!! Please note: As this is so close to

The Race of the Roses..............has been run.............and those attending the First Annual Kentucky Derby in Ransom Canyon Ranch House............I believe had a great time!!! As a brief recap; Approximately 75 residents, family and friends, and some (who found us on the internet) attended our event; and the Mint Juleps and Mimosas were a hit...........as well as the "table of Derby food". The final numbers are still being worked, against the expenses, however, we can say "with a great party..........enjoying the Island"......and also making some dollars..........is always a good thing. And......the hats..........and outfits.........fit the occasion............very well!! Many "thank you's " to all of those holding volunteer post.........from the greeters at the front entrance, to those offering the "tickets for your favorite horses".........to the "raffle for the 50,000 travel miles"...........with Envoye' Travel and POA............to Martha Hise Cieszinski, doing a wonderful presentation as Mistress of Ceremonies.
